Teaching writing to children: writing a fill-in-the-blank text

Whether your child is in first grade or in the last year of kindergarten, realize that at their age, they are more inclined towards play. To help your child acquire the ability to write, you can use methods that combine with games.

A practical example is to have your child write a fill-in-the-blank text. What does this involve? You can start by printing a Seyès sheet due to its properties. Indeed, the Seyès sheet features a grid made of large squares. Combined with baseline lines interspersed with spaces, it allows the child to write straight. Thus, write a text on the Seyès paper while omitting some words or expressions and leaving a space between sentences for your child to complete. In this way, the child feels like they are having fun, but in reality, they are gradually gaining independence.

Encourage your child to send letters to distant family members

One of the tricks to get your child to write without pressure is to suggest they write to a distant family member, whether it’s their mother, a brother, a sister, an uncle, or an aunt… Their mission will be to recount their achievements to the recipient through a written letter. This way, they will be especially motivated by the idea of showing their progress in writing.

Making a wish list, a trick that always works

You may have noticed that children always have enthusiasm for writing to Santa Claus. So, do not hesitate to take advantage of this trend to have them write as many letters as necessary, mentioning their wishes. Hand them a pen and paper and ask them to describe the gifts they would like for Christmas, their future job, the house of their dreams, or even their favorite animal.

No matter what is said, knowing how to write will undeniably be a hallmark of a good education. Therefore, it is imperative to make writing enjoyable for your offspring. You can already use the many tricks that exist to achieve this.
